Victoria's Western District is the heartland of Australia's lamb and wool production. It is here at "RippleVale Farm" that you will find our prime lambs grazing freely on lush green paddocks. 

We provide a stress-free environment for our livestock, we are hands-on with all aspects of animal husbandry. As we live on the farm we can tend to their needs daily. We take our livestock to the local family-owned abattoir each week in Geelong, in our own purpose-built carrier. We are very proud of the humane way our stock travel only a few kilometers for processing. Less stress means better meat. So, when you buy meat from MidWest Meats you know it’s local, grass-fed, and always delicious.

Our Beef and Pork are hand selected from only the best local free-range farmers in our local area. We do not need to look further afield as we are in a prime agricultural farming area.

OUR HISTORY

Justin and Sara Cashman have operated the farm and the Butcher Shop for many years. As business partners, they are passionate about the meat business. They love breeding and raising livestock and have an eye for quality, knowing which animals are best in the markets. Having met at Agricultural College, they have shared a common love of agriculture. They have raised three children on the farm and have long been strong community members.

The passion for Butchering came from Sara's family, with all the male members of Sara's family being Geelong Butchers. It stands to reason that Sara became the first Online Butcher in Australia. Justin's family has a long tradition of family cattle farming in Gippsland. This is a marriage that has made for an exceptional career in the meat industry.

MidWest Meats is not just a Butcher Shop it is a family. Training local youth into skilled artisan Butchers is a passion and the lifeblood of the future of the meat industry. We are not only passionate about paddock to plate, we are training the next generation to be as equally skilled and passionate.

The Farm is on the cusp of the Otway Ranges which enjoys not just a large farming ethos but is also synonymous with local artisan produce. MidWest Meats is committed to the artisan processes and enjoys supporting and showcasing local produce through its store.  

OUR ETHOS

We believe in what we do: producing wonderful meat and sharing local Farm Gate produce to enjoy whatever the occasion. We think it a worthwhile way to spend our time and we love it. We hope we spread a "little love" every time you dish up another one of the meals we helped to create.

We believe that farming should work with nature, not against it, especially when dealing with livestock. We know our suppliers and only trust the most ethical farmers that are employing ethical and sustainable animal husbandry practices.

We believe in the grass: it is one of nature's miracles that grass captures the energy from the sun and that cows and sheep can convert this into healthy meat full of vitamins and minerals. We stand by paddock to plate! 

We believe the best things in life, particularly food, are simple, natural, and unspoiled. Meat produced in this way should be essential, affordable, and a pleasure to put on a plate.

We believe in butchering as an artisan trade. A trade that should be respected and continue to evolve, which is why we continue to train local youth in butchering. Your local butcher is an expert on all things meat, it is a skill you cannot replicate on a quickie mart shelf.
